Positive Disruption

Positive Disruption

Magnify the positives and miniaturise the negatives.

How often do we hear coaches and psychologists expound the merits of “focusing on the positive” to guarantee success when dealing with stressful situations or pursuing goals? Of course, this is great advice, but what about the negatives?

They are always there, defiant, daunting, and diabolical.  It takes great courage, specialized training, and empathetic support to deal with these omnipotent barriers to our happiness.

The expression “focus on the positive” suggests that the beneficial aspects we aim to capture are often subtle and not immediately obvious. This implies that, while negative factors might be more apparent and easier to notice, the significant positive influences are tiny and difficult to see, recognize and benefit from.

What if we had access to a disruptor that would instantly polarize anything that may influence achieving our goals? We could magnify the important things and miniaturise the obstacles. I’m liking the sound of this…

It is true that the aspects of our lives that are beneficial are often difficult to spot, so let’s go hunting. When we identify a positive influence, press the green button, and zap it. Watch it instantly transform into a magnificent energy source so potent that it engulfs us with confidence, enthusiasm, and desire. Let it warm our whole being with its newfound purpose and gratitude at being invited to be our ally.

Positive influences include traits such as our growth mindset, buoyant sense of humour and innate stubbornness. Emotions play a huge role in navigating the rugged terrain associated with our quest for happiness. Lock the cross hairs on feelings like joy, gratitude, love, serenity, hope, excitement, pride, inspiration, amusement, optimism, eagerness, anything that feels good and is good for us. You can’t have too many of these and the bigger they are the better. Let them know you love them and want them around, forever.

Intimidating emotions like self-doubt, boredom, indifference, fear, pain, anger, anxiety, sadness, guilt, envy, resentment, regret, frustration, insecurity, frustration, embarrassment, and pessimism are bullies. The bigger they are the harder they fall, so press the red button on our disruptor and miniaturize them. Enjoy the vision of our tormentors shrinking to insignificant laughable forms with little squeaky voices and covered in purple feathers. Oh yeah!

The Law of Conservation of Energy decrees that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only change forms or be transferred between objects. That’s what we’re doing, shifting the balance from negative energy to positive with a process of miniaturisation and magnification.

To get maximum benefit from our disruptor we need basic training but with practice we will soon be belittling bullies and cheering champions, on the fly.
